Monogramming for pre-teens

My girls have hit that point where cutesy monogram things do not appeal to them.   Argghhhh!   Drives me crazy!  They have always been my inspiration, so now I have to get really creative.  My oldest is 9 and is very tall.  In general she wears at least a 10, if not a 12 or 14.  I have the hardest time finding clothes for her.  I've been on this rant before, so I won't go on too long.  I do not believe that she needs to wear anything with a design plastered across the butt or anything that says "sexy" or "hot".  She is 9 - she is not sexy.  She is still cute.  I won't go on because I will bore you to death with my frustration.

Luckily one of my customers who also has an older daughter came in with 2 pairs of sweatpants for me to monogram.  I absolutely loved this idea and stole it for my girls.  They love them and I still get to put them in monogram items.  I found the "french terry" pants at Target on sale for $6.  I even got a few pairs off the clearance rack for only $4.  I sewed a big monogram on them and success!  As our kids get older, I know we all choose our battles.  Luckily, this is not a battle item.  Glad I found a cheap alternative without something trashy splashed on it.  xoxo

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week!  Say WHAT!?!  I think I've skipped over Thanksgiving and moved onto Christmas.  I have started my Christmas crafting and right now it's still fun.  The hectic holidays haven't hit, so I'm still calm.  Here is my first project of the season.  It was super easy:

Take a simple wreath form, Fun Fur Yarn, Ribbon, Hot Glue and a Letter if you choose.  I found the letter at Michaels and I didn't have to paint it.  I just wrapped the yarn around the wreath form.  Fun Fur works really well because you can easily cover any mistakes (i.e. too much hot glue!).  I left a space for the ribbon and hot glued the letter on.  Easy Peasy!

I'm playing off the colors I already have in my house and just adding a few pieces (thanks Dad for the early Christmas present) from Hen House Linens - my favorite place for placemats, tablecloths, napkins, etc...

Check out their website Hen House Linens.  I've decided to incorporate the Devine Scarlett into the Fleur de Lis Basil and the Tapestry Licorice.

Check back soon for pics of my holiday table!

Pumpkins, Spiders and Ghosts, Oh My!

It's my favorite time of year!  I love it when the weather starts to turn cool and I can pull out my turtlenecks, jeans and sweaters.  It's also the time of year when I celebrate my anniversary with The Purple Goose - 2 years and going strong!  Here's a picture from our Grand Opening!

I also love Halloween!  I have lots of fun things to celebrate - cute glow in the dark ghostshirts, pumpkins on dresses, spider bloomers, whatever you can think of!

On Saturday ONLY, we will be offering some great specials at Art on the Avenue - everything will be 20% off.  If you have things in your closet you have been wanting to get monogrammed, bring them Saturday - price will be $12 per monogram!  T-shirts, bows, bags, all special orders will be 20% off!  Take advantage!  If you can't make it to Art on the Avenue, send me a message and let me know what you want.  Payment will be required up front for me to honor the pricing.   Happy Halloween and get to work on you Christmas shopping!!

With the girls back in school, I might actually get a handle on my life (yeah, right).  But I can pretend!  I am so excited to celebrate my 2 year anniversary with The Purple Goose.  It has been such a great adventure and I have learned so much.  This is the year I would like to ramp things up and continue to expand.  I have started doing vinyl lettering in addition to monogramming.  Here are a couple of things for Halloween!

The Purple Goose is beginning to put out all their Fall Consignment and I have so much fun looking at all the items I think should be monogrammed.  But it also made me think about all the already monogrammed items that are thrown away or put into a storage container.  Repurposing monogrammed items is so easy.  Some monograms pull out easily and re-monogramming is no big deal.  I changed this from a K to an L.

Other monogram are not so easy!  Sometimes, the monogram is more difficult to get out.  Either the fabric is too worn from the original monogram or I put a hole in the outfit when I try to pull it out.  Luckily there are plenty of options.  Add a patch and you have a new outfit!

So when you begin your summer to winter clothes switch, remember to set aside your previously monogrammed items.  Bring them to me and I will get the monogram out and create an almost new outfit!  Happy Fall Y'all!!!

Clearly, I am no good at this blogging thing.  I just can't seem to find the time!  I have been working like crazy since Thanksgiving, doing some Christmas items, but also lots of Birthday and Specialty Items.  Got to make those Birthdays and other events around Christmas super special.   Here are some of the cute designs:

Back on Track with Ric Rac

I have totally neglected my blog lately - very sad :(.  Anyway, I am trying to get back on track and my new obsession is Ric Rac!  Krista Obitts sent me a picture of a gown she wanted me to copy with ric rac around the trim and I fell in love!  I came up with a ric rac set which is a great newborn set.  As I work on my t-shirts for Fall, when you order, you will have the option to add ric rac to the collar.  I am visiting Mom right now and planning a trip to Mary Jo's and Fancy Gap fabric outlet to pick up some Fall Fabrics and more ric rac.

Make sure to come by The Purple Goose in the next few weeks - most shoes and clothing are 50% off!  Nick will be starting on our Back to School window soon!  Look out for some of my t-shirts in the window!
